Our permanent exhibition on the life and work of Richard Wagner is located on the first floor of the Tribschen country house. Antique and richly decorated furniture, gilded frames, heavy fabrics, and colorful patterns invite you to immerse yourself in “Wagner’s world” in the composer’s former living quarters.


The exhibition was redesigned between November 2022 and April 2023. Instead of numerous display cases, an audio guide now provides insights into Wagner’s years in Lucerne and leads visitors through the rooms. Restored furnishings invite you to linger and take in the atmosphere, while original pieces once owned by the composer complete the historic setting.


The highlight of the collection is Richard Wagner’s Érard grand piano, made in Paris in 1858. Despite its size, the instrument traveled extensively, as Wagner took it with him wherever he went until financial difficulties forced him to sell it. Ten years later, he bought it back.

When the Richard Wagner Museum was founded, the Érard grand piano was brought from Bayreuth to Tribschen. Following several restorations, it remains playable today and is used for concerts, including performances held in connection with the museum’s public guided tours.
