Giacomo Meyerbeer and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy were attacked by Wagner in his antisemitic essay “Judaism in Music.” Jewish composers, including those of later generations, suffered from the consequences of Wagner’s hostility toward Jews. Yet Gustav Mahler, who was also Jewish and born around half a century later, was an ardent Wagnerian.
In this song recital, pianist Yvonne Lang and singer Madelaine Wibom bring the music of these important composers from Wagner’s time to the Tribschen country house.
